Kenyan double victory with women's course record
Kenyan Brenda Cherotich Kiprono wins the 19th Linz Marathon in a new course record time. The 24-year-old triumphed in her debut over the 42.195 kilometers in 2:30:27 hours. The men's race was won by her 37-year-old compatriot Ezekiel Koech Kiprop in 2:09:43 hours.
The Linz record of 2:07:33 from 2007 remained untouched. Austrian top athletes were not at the start. Last year the event was cancelled due to the Corona pandemic.
8,000 participants At the first autumn event with around 8,000 registered runners including the side events, Kiprono narrowly improved the previous record of 2:30:45 in glorious weather. The record was set in 2011 by Croatian Lisa Christina Stublic, who was convicted of doping and banned a few years later.
