Anthony Maritim (KEN) wins 16th Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon

In the sixteenth year, 19,300 runners from over 70 nations took part in the Linz Marathon. The athletes provided impressive times. However, the track record of 2: 07.33 hours, set by the Ukrainian Alexander Kuzin in 2007, could not be broken. The Kenyan Anthony Maritim reaches the finish line in Linz after 2:09:11 and thus took the fourth best lap time in Linz.

The light wind on this sunny day made some problems for the top field: "I am nevertheless very happy to have reached the fourth best time of the last few years. The mood and the cheers of the audience were unique, I wanted to feel the victorious feeling once again here in Linz," said Maritim (Linz winner 2015, 2:09:39).

Second in the marathon competition was the Kenyan Oliaulo Ngatuny Emmanuel with a time of 2:11:05 followed by his countryman Kimutai Kering with 2:15:22. Fastest Austrian and thus ranked 4th was Ketema Lemawork of the Oberbank Power Team in a time of 2:16:08. "It was a great experience here in Linz to run, the people are very nice and fired me. Unfortunately, my Pacemaker has become too slow from kilometer 28 onwards. Unfortunately, I could not reach the intended World Cup qualifying time for Londen from 2:15:00 today," says Ketema Lemawork.

Women's field dominated by Croatian Nikolina Stepan

Nikolina Stepan finished the marathon competition with a time of 2:43:6. Second was the Austrian Karin Freitag from Itter with a time of 2:46:27. (Note: The Croatian Dr Danijela Kuna finished the marathon competition with 2:43:55, but was disqualified.)
