Environmental and climate protection

In 2024, the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon will be organized according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Events.

The Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon has always paid particular attention to the responsible use of resources and environmental protection aspects. Since the previous year, all areas of the organization have also been professionally monitored and continuously examined for sustainability. As an interim result, many aspects were noticeably rethought for the participants in 2023. In 2024, the competitions were organized according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Events.

In cooperation with Gerhard Kampits Veranstaltungsmanagement GmbH, an Austrian specialist for green event certification, we are actively working on organizing the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon as a green event.

"In a time of climate change and constantly rising energy prices, all event organizers are called upon to react to the changes in society. It is our task to raise awareness in society of the need to treat the environment with care. Green event certification for such an important sporting event as the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon sends out a signal that entertainment and exercise are also possible with consideration for the environment. It is not about restrictions, but about the moderate use of resources and about keeping events fun in an intact environment." (Gerhard Kampits)

For a successful implementation, we also rely on the support of our participants and ask them to make an active contribution. Be it traveling by public transport or ensuring that waste is separated correctly.

Sustainability on the move - current status

We recommend a climate-friendly journey on foot, by bike or by public transport. Bus stops (Parkbad or Brucknerhaus) for bus lines 12, 25 and 26 are located in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
  • Since the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon 2022, increased attention has been paid to the use of green electricity. This initiative in cooperation with LINZ AG will be successively expanded, and by 2023 the proportion of green electricity will already be over 40%.
  • Inclusion is a high priority this year. In addition to the Special Olympics Run, we are enabling barrier-free participation for athletes and spectators in the Linz Danube Marathon. Further information can be found here.
  • Loudspeakers will be set up at the start, finish and at individual points along the route. Due to the fact that the event takes place outdoors and the participants are on the move, no continuous sound level is expected that could be detrimental to health.
  • We rely on the feedback of our participants and visitors for continuous further development. Feedback can be submitted after the event using a feedback questionnaire.
