In addition to certification according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel, two brand new competitions - the Generali 5K over 5,000 meters on Sunday and the 1st Special Olympics Run Linz powered by Hofmann Personal on Saturday - the ÖGK Junior Marathon powered by ORF Radio OÖ will be held at a new, attractive venue. If you want to be part of the major running event in Linz in 2024, you should secure your starting number quickly by December 21 - the first entry deadline is approaching!

Preparations for the 22nd edition of the classic Linz Marathon in spring 2024 are in full swing. The organization team around marathon coordinator Wolfgang Scheibner is already really stepping on the gas. "We are looking forward to many innovations at the Linz Danube Marathon. The Generali 5K competition, for example, offers the large group of hobby runners who are keen on sports the opportunity to join the Linz Danube Marathon without having to train for long distances. The race for our youngest participants is moving to the Danube, and efforts to raise the Linz Donau Marathon to a completely new level of quality as a green event are also progressing rapidly."

Finally, the cultural theme of the year 2024, the anniversary of 200 years of Anton Bruckner, also sheds its light on the Linz Danube Marathon - with a musical Bruckner Mile as a pacemaker on the way to personal success! If you want to take part in this major running event in Linz, you should secure your starting number by December 21, which is the first closing date for entries at the lowest rates. The Linz Danube Marathon is also the perfect sporting Christmas present. Entry fee vouchers and merchandise items are available in the online store.

ÖGK Junior Marathon 2024 on the New Railway Bridge for the first time

When the children officially open the Linz Danube Marathon on the day before the big marathon, they will also be starting on a bridge for the first time in 2024, namely the New Railway Bridge! The great ambience of this new landmark of the Upper Austrian capital with the Pöstlingberg in the background and the new Hofmann Personal Stadium right next door will enhance the youngsters' run even more.

"'Taking part is everything' - the Olympic motto also applies to the ÖGK Junior Marathon 2024! The attractive venue at the New Railway Bridge promises an exciting event and offers a breathtaking backdrop for the children and their parents. The Junior Marathon is a great opportunity for the kids to awaken their enthusiasm for exercise," says Deputy Mayor and Sports Officer Karin Hörzing. "In addition to the organizers and sponsors, I would also like to thank the numerous volunteers who make the Junior Marathon a spectacle for the whole family." Wolfgang Scheibner, LIVA marathon coordinator, adds: "I am delighted that by relocating the ÖGK Junior Marathon to the New Railway Bridge, we will be able to offer around 2,000 children the opportunity to take part in the country's biggest running spectacle closer than ever before - that's 800 more children than in previous years."

The course length for kids between the ages of 6 and 13 will be 530 meters. The start will be on the Linz side of the bridge in the direction of Linz. Once again this year, all age groups will be judged individually, with boys and girls starting separately. The youngest children will also have their own running course in the Donaupark, where they can run without timekeeping or pressure. In addition to the ÖGK starter bag with the Junior Marathon T-shirt, each child will receive the popular golden finisher's medal.

New goal in Linz: Generali 5K

Until now, the LINZ AG quarter marathon, which is around ten kilometers long, was the short program in Linz. In order to improve the "run-fun balance", participation in the marathon Sunday is possible for the first time this year with the Generali 5K over exactly 5,000 meters. This "eighth marathon" is certainly long enough for newcomers to the world of running. In addition, the "teens" who previously took part in the junior events on Saturday will now find a new challenge. The precisely measured running course with the start on the Untere Donaulände, past the Brucknerhaus Linz, along Gruberstraße to the ORF Landesstudio OÖ, on to the Linzer Landestheater, around the Volksgarten and on the Landstraße to the finish at the Linzer Hauptplatz is typically Linz flat and fast and a welcome addition to the existing program.
