Things will also be different at the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon in 2021. For the first time, it seems impossible to hold Austria's most popular running event in spring while maintaining the usual high-level quality and service features developed over many years. Keeping moving is nevertheless essential for running enthusiasts: The next Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon will take place on October 24, 2021 - save the date!
The ongoing global health situation is currently posing many obstacles to the planning of major events. More and more sporting events can only take place to a very limited extent in order to ensure the safety of athletes and visitors, and are often postponed to an unspecified date or even canceled. The organizers of the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon, in consultation with their sponsors and partner companies, have decided to move the events of the 2021 Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon to the weekend of October 23/24 with the one-time postponement to the fall season.
"The popular Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon is not only an immense incentive for many thousands of people to take part in sporting activities, but also makes a very significant contribution to the quality of life in our city with its large scale - from the core competitions for adults and children, through the tempo zones and district festivals, to the traditional grand finale on Linz's main square. A postponement to autumn is unavoidable due to the current Covid restrictions and those to be assumed for spring. As mayor and an enthusiastic runner, I hope that we will be able to enjoy our Linz Marathon on October 24 next year," says a delighted Mayor Klaus Luger.
"We're aware of how tight the 2021 event calendar will be, but we're sure that conditions for runners will be much better in the fall than in the upcoming spring," Ewald Tröbinger of the OC team of the Linz Danube Marathon office is also convinced. The team has already begun preparations for comprehensive planning in compliance with a strict safety concept.
The extended period due to the shift to autumn will be made visible with attractive additional offers already from the coming weeks as a chance for all participants to build up healthily and train in a targeted manner.
"We would like to thank our participants for their great support and loyalty in the past months, which is why we will offer the free running workouts again as early as fall 2020. For maximum safety, the trainings will be held in an adapted format with a maximum of 10 people per lap and will be supervised by qualified running coaches. The participants have here directly the possibility to motivate each other and to get tips directly", knows the ex-world class runner and current marathon organizer Günther Weidlinger from LIVA.
The popular Lauftreffs start as planned from 07 November 2020 and take place fortnightly, each Saturday at 9:00. The running routes vary this year, so an exciting mix of training content awaits participants. Unlike previous years, registration is required. The final information will be published in the next few days via the various channels (Facebook, Instagram, homepage, newsletter) of the Linz Danube Marathon.
Registration for the 19th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon on Oct. 24, 2021, willstart next spring; in advance, an initial catalog will be made available here on the marathon homepage to answer the most pressing questions.
