After the marathon is before the marathon

20th anniversary on October 23, 2021.

Satisfied, relaxed faces after the run also among the organizing team.

LIVA Board Director Dr. Rainer Stadler says: "The work of our small team in recent years has been characterized by adapting our internal organizational structure to the strict Covid prevention measures. Due to the failure last year and the imponderables until shortly before the start, we can rightly look proudly on this year's great event. A new course record is of course great. But the winning time was not the decisive factor, the important thing was that we were once again able to offer all running enthusiasts a super experience. I am confident that the work with our young, powerful group can be continued successfully in the coming years."

"From logistics to weather to external conditions, such as the implementation of a strict Covid-19 prevention concept, the challenges are of course always great. But when the last runner reaches the finish line healthy and in one piece, and you see the happy faces of all the people, you know it was more than worth the effort," enthuses Linz Marathon organizer Ewald Tröbinger, who organized his last marathon in Linz and will retire into "retirement" in 2021.

"In my busy life I have moved the masses: as a support act for Falco in the 1980s and since 2002 as organizer of the Linz Danube Marathon, Upper Austria's biggest running and sporting event. In the process, I also sought my sporting limits as an active marathon runner and triathlete. The 19th Linz Danube Marathon will also be my last as organizer. I wish the team continued success," says Tröbinger.

Speaking of: The date for the 20th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon is already fixed at Sunday, October 23, 2022.

About the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon

What began in 2002 with 5,000 sports enthusiasts has long since grown into Upper Austria's largest running event. With around 20,000 participants and 100,000 spectators from almost 80 nations, the multiple "Marathon of the Year" in Austria now also represents a significant economic factor and tourism magnet with thousands of overnight stays in the region every year.

The fast course - course record 2:07:33 by Alexander Kuzin (UKR) in 2007 - past the most beautiful places in the city with the spectacular start in the middle of the Voest freeway bridge in the center of Linz make the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon a popular destination for both professional athletes and hobby sports enthusiasts, who can compete here once a year with the fastest runners in the world.

Despite its enormous growth in size, participants still value the Linz Danube Marathon as a running festival with heart and a family feeling. The organizing team attaches great importance to individually tailored service from individuals to large groups, optimal support before and during the competitions, and the excellent price/performance ratio that goes with it. The Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon is AIMS certified and classified as a 5 star European Athletics Quality Road Race.
