Countdown to the start of registration

On April 15, 2021, registrations will start for what is indeed an unusual running event in Linz.

The 19th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon is the first and probably also the only event in the autumn season to get running fans moving. It is not only the anticipation of the cooler season that should inspire all participants; this year, preparations are being made twice over to safeguard against a cancellation.

After the Covid-related cancellation last year, the organizers, in coordination with their sponsors and partner companies, have decided with the one-time postponement into the fall season to schedule the top-class running festival for the weekend of October 23/24 in 2021. Now that the preliminary planning has been completed, the organizers City of Linz, OÖ. Nachrichten and LIVA Linzer Veranstaltungsgesellschaft are pleased to announce that registration for the 19th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon can begin on April 15.

In order to be able to react correctly to possible upper limits and further official restrictions in October, allregistrations will be ranked according to the date of registration. So being fast is not only the motto on the race course this year.

Because every completed run is better than a standstill, the organization team is also planning in a second direction this year. Already tried and tested many times around the world, the organization of running events as so-called "Virtual Runs" - each runner chooses his or her own favorite course at home and then uploads the time result to a shared participation list - has established itself very well over the past 12 months as a targeted alternative with limited contact possibilities. So while the greatest care will be taken over the next few months to ensure that Austria's most popular running event goes live, participants in the 19th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon can look forward to an exceptional sporting challenge even in the event of another lockdown. As a "service marathon", the Linz Marathon will in any case be relying on the usual high-level quality features developed over many years, finisher medals and an attractive starter package.

"Preparations for the relaunch of Upper Austria's biggest running event are on track, and we are looking forward to a unique event in the fall that even the marathon stronghold of Linz has not yet experienced in this form. I am very pleased that this year we can offer the many fans of the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon a fresh perspective for their exceptional annual experience with new ideas and possibilities" (Dr. Rainer Stadler, Commercial Director of LIVA).
