This is how things run smoothly at the Linz Marathon

A city is on its feet when the Linz Marathon returns after a two-and-a-half-year break from the Corona. The running festival moves both starters and spectators. All the information on the schedule, supporting program, route and detours.

A city is in a state of emergency - and for good reason. On Sunday (Oct. 24), runners will have Linz firmly in their hands when the starting gun goes off for the 19th Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon organized by OÖN and LIVA. That's the timetable for another weekend entirely dedicated to the joy of movement.

The warm-up

You can get a first taste of what's to come on October 22 (starting at 9 a.m.) and October 23 (starting at 10 a.m.) at the traditional Marathon Fair in Linz's TipsArena, where manufacturers will present their products and there will be discounts on all items in stock.

Start number pickup can also be done in the hall. Late deciders take note: Anyone who still wants to register for Upper Austria's annual running highlight can also do so on site without any red tape. "We expect some who still make this step," says Günther Weidlinger from the OC team.

The attunement

Even the day before the big marathon race day (23. 10.) with the individual competitions already offers a full program. Not only the Marathon Expo will open its doors once again. Anyone who wants to be infected by the enthusiasm for running and the urge to move on the part of the little ones should definitely drop by the Lissfeld Sports Park in Linz starting at 12 noon. The age-appropriate Junior Marathon will be held there. "When you see the enthusiasm with which the kids get down to work, you no longer believe in the lack of exercise among young people that is always propagated today," says Ewald Tröbinger of the Linz OC team.

There will also be a marathon service in the Ursuline Church in the evening (6 p.m.), organized by the Catholic Youth and led by Michael Münzner, himself a passionate marathon runner. The highlight: On Sunday (October 24), thousands of runners will once again set off on the Vöest freeway bridge. Although they will be running on different routes and with different time frames, they will all have just one goal in mind: Linz's main square, which on this day becomes Heroes' Square and many spectators here tirelessly set the pace for the starters. And for years now it has been good practice to set up special speed zones with music groups to create a good atmosphere.

And if someone should not have the possibility to be present on Sunday at the running spectacle, he will also be helped. There will be a live broadcast on ORF Sport + from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring ex-professional Christian Pflügl and ORF man Thomas Hölzl as well as the well-known author and political scientist Peter Filzmaier for the first time.
