Environmental and climate protection

Marathon goes Green

The aim is to organize the 24. Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon 2026 as a green event in cooperation with the Upper Austrian Climate Alliance.

The Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon is also placing a clear focus on the responsible use of resources and environmental protection at the upcoming event. In previous years, the organization has already been professionally supported and continuously checked for sustainability. The aim is to set another example for environmentally conscious and sustainable events. In 2026, the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon, the ÖGK Junior Marathon and the kick-off event are to be organized as green events.

For a successful implementation, we also rely on the support of our participants and ask them to make an active contribution. Be it traveling by public transport or ensuring that waste is separated correctly.

Sustainability on the move - current status

Linz public transport free of charge on the day of the event

We kindly ask our participants and visitors to travel by public transportation. With our partner LING AG we try to make this as easy as possible for you:

  • The start numbers of all competitions are also valid as a free day ticket with LINZ AG on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
  • Free shuttle buses from Linz main station to Holzstraße. From there, the clothing bag drop-off point at the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Parkbad fitness oasis (free showers) and the start on the Voest highway bridge are just a few minutes' walk away.

Further information on environmentally friendly travel by other means of transportation can be found here.

Waste separation and disposal

We ask our participants and visitors to avoid waste as much as possible and to dispose of unavoidable waste via the separate collection offered at the event.

  • Disposal options from start to finish
  • Waste separation system at the sports fair in the TipsArena and along the route at all refreshment points
  • Reusable crockery at the kick-off event, at the pasta party and in the VIP area

Other areas

  • For all participants and visitors who want to stay overnight in Linz before or after the marathon, we can recommend our partner hotel Arcotel Linz, which has been awarded the internationally recognized Green Key sustainability certificate. We recommend a climate-friendly journey on foot, by bike or by public transport. Bus stops (Parkbad or Brucknerhaus) for bus lines 12, 25 and 26 are located in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
  • Since the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon 2022, increased attention has been paid to the use of green electricity. This initiative in cooperation with LINZ AG is being successively expanded and the proportion of green electricity is already over 40%.
  • Inclusion is a high priority. In addition to the Special Olympics Run, we enable barrier-free participation for athletes and spectators in the Linz Danube Marathon. Further information can be found here.
  • Loudspeakers will be set up at the start, finish and at individual points along the route. Due to the fact that the event takes place outdoors and the participants are on the move, no continuous sound levels are expected that could be detrimental to health.
  • We rely on the feedback of our participants and visitors for continuous further development. We look forward to receiving feedback after the event via our online questionnaire.
