Record number of participants for 15th Borealis Linz Marathon.
At the Tips Arena in Linz, young runners were able to compete and have fun at the start of the marathon weekend.
Only winners in the children's race on the anniversary marathon weekend
This year, the OÖ Nachrichten Junior Marathon powered by ORF Radio OÖ took place for the eleventh time. The day before the main competition, 2,700 children gathered to run like the big ones. The competitions had already been fully booked for weeks. The distances for the very small ones started at 40 meters, over 400 meters and ended at the supreme discipline for the youngsters (4200 meters). For the OÖ Nachrichten Junior Marathon powered by ORF Radio Oberösterreich, LIVA Marathon coordinator Wolfgang Lehner and Linz Marathon organizer Ewald Tröbinger draw a pleasing balance: "The Junior Marathon is enjoying ever greater demand from year to year. We had to close admission to the individual running events weeks ago because we were completely booked up. Since after the children's marathon is also before the children's marathon for us, we will take a close look at what further innovations we can develop for this so popular running competition in 2017."
With late entries for the first time 20,150 participants
Saturday evening saw the Linz Marathon impressively surpass the 20,000 mark for the first time in its fifteen-year history. At the final closing date for late entries, which were possible on Friday and Saturday, the organizers were delighted to welcome 20,150 participants to the running events of the 15th Linz Marathon. "We are particularly pleased that for our anniversary we have now clearly broken through the 20,000 sound barrier for the first time with the late entries. This shows that Linz has continued to develop over the past 15 years and that our efforts to provide optimum service and quality for participants have been rewarded," says a delighted LIVA Marahton coordinator Wolfgang Lehner.
