Geoffrey Mutai comes to Linz

The Kenyan and former winner of the World Marathon Majors in Boston, New York and Berlin will be competing for the first time at a running event in Austria.
"It is of course a great thing that we have been able to sign up such a great athlete for the Linz Danube Marathon again this year," says a delighted Oberbank CEO Franz Gasselsberger. Mutai's best performance, which he achieved at the Boston Marathon 2011, is 2:03:02 hours. This performance makes him the second-fastest marathon runner in history and by far the fastest marathon runner ever to start in a marathon in Austria.
To achieve his targeted time at the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon, Mutai will have to run every kilometer in 3:01. The current course record is 2:07:33. "I'm looking forward to this challenge at the Linz Danube Marathon - I've already heard a lot of positive things about the event and the very fast course," says Geoffrey Mutai, already full of anticipation for Linz.
To ensure that Geoffrey Mutai can achieve this goal, the organizers of the LIVA have signed up powerful pacesetters and competitors. In addition to Geoffrey Mutai, Elijah Kemboi, who has a personal best of 2:07:34 set at the Frankfurt Marathon in 2013, will also be at the start. "An exciting battle for victory is therefore pre-programmed," says Linz Donau Marathon athlete coordinator Günther Weidlinger. Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon offers running for everyone
The Linz Danube Marathon is not just for the stars; rather, the largest grassroots sporting event in the province of Upper Austria is a running festival for all sports enthusiasts. Registrations are now open for the Oberbank Marathon, Borealis Half Marathon, LINZ AG Quarter Marathon and TGW Relay Marathon as well as the OÖGKK Junior Marathon powered by Radio OÖ. The Junior Marathon will already take place one day before the big marathon on 14.04.2018 in the Stadium of the City of Linz on the Gugl.
