"It runs well with God!" is the motto of this year's marathon service on the day before the big race.
On Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. a special service will take place in the Ursuline Church. On the eve of Palm Sunday, all runners, fans, friends of the Linz Marathon, organizers and interested people are invited to bring their thoughts before God in prayers and songs and to be blessed. Similar to the runners, many people in the Bible are also on the way, walking or running long distances to reach a certain goal. From Abraham to Moses to Jesus, there are countless biblical figures whose stories are characterized by being on the road. One of them revolves around the prophet Elijah and will be the focus of the celebration.
This celebration - with a final blessing of the runners - is being prepared by the Catholic Youth of Upper Austria (kj oö). The working group youth liturgy around diocesan youth pastor Michael Münzner, who has been an active marathon runner himself for years, has asked the question what strengthens one on the way and what helps to overcome dry stretches. The band of the kj oö will provide the musical accompaniment. During the celebration, there will be the opportunity to have palm branches blessed.
The kj oö would like to express with the service that one reaches one's own limits while running, thereby gets to know them, accepts them and learns to deal with them, often also with the help of the "angels" along the way.
