Marathon church service

Celebration with runners' blessing on the eve of the marathon in the Ursuline Church.

28.03.2026

On the eve of the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon, the marathon service offers runners, fans, organizers and interested parties the opportunity to pause, draw strength and be blessed.

"...they both ran together." (John 20:4a)

Many thousands of runners take part in the marathon every year and run through the streets of the provincial capital Linz. Each of them tries to achieve their goals at their own pace. And even if it depends on the fitness, energy and strength of each individual, it is still a wonderful experience to be on the road together.
The Gospel according to John once says "...they both ran together" (John 20:4a). What is a beautiful experience in a marathon is of great importance for all of us in everyday life. We are on the road with others, need others and can help and support each other. As believers, however, we can also trust that God is walking or running with us.

Runners' blessing & agape

The service is prepared by a dedicated team of employees from the Diocese of Linz, including Michael Münzner, a priest and passionate marathon runner himself. The focus is on the runner's blessing, which is intended to give strength for the marathon and for life's journey.
Afterwards, there will be an agape with the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and enjoy refreshments.
