Nominated as an outstanding sustainable sporting event in the Green Events Austria 2024/2025 competition "sustainable winning!
Launched by the federal-state network "Green Events Austria", the Austria-wide competition "sustainable winning!" has been honoring exceptional sports and cultural events since 2011, which act as role models in their industry with a broad impact and have implemented important environmental protection measures in a creative and innovative way. The Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon was nominated as an "outstanding sustainable sporting event" for the 2024/25 period!
On November 3, 2025, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Climate Protection and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport hosted the Green Events Austria conference and award ceremony in Vienna. For the first time, the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon was also among the nominees in the "Sports Events and Sports Clubs" category. Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig and State Secretary Michaela Schmidt personally presented the award in a dignified setting.
"We are very proud and grateful to receive this award," said a delighted Anna Hollnsteiner and Sarah Lang from the Linz Marathon OC team. "Organizing such a complex, multi-day major event like the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon completely as a green event poses great challenges, but the noticeable difference in the result is the reward. Thanks to our entire team and all our partner companies."
