Top athletes at the start promise an exciting Borealis Linz Danube Marathon 2015
With the Swiss former European marathon champion Viktor Röthlin, Linz has had a professional in its organization team for 3 years, who takes care of the commitment and support of the athletes for the marathon competition. The goal is to break the course record in Linz in 2015. To realize this goal, Viktor Röthlin was able to sign up the strongest field of participants in the history of the BOREALIS Linz Marathon so far.
Fastest field of participants ever to start in Linz
Laban Mutai from Kenya came within a hair's breadth of setting a new course record, the icing on the oft-cited "I", as it were, to the Linz Marathon record set in 2007. This year, the long-awaited fabulous time is finally to be realized. With Henry Kemo Sugut, Alfred Kering, Daniel Kosgei and Anthony Maritim (all Kenya), top runners capable of running a time under 2:07:33 are coming to Linz. Leading the way:
- Henry Sugut, KEN/1985, 3-time winner Vienna Marathon (2010/2012/2013), personal best 2h06.58 and Alfred Kering, KEN/1978, training partner of Henry Sugut. Alfred ran already three times 2h07'. His personal best is 2.07.11
- Daniel Kosgei, KEN Personal best 2.08.58
- Anthony Maritiem, KEN/1986, training partner of Eliud Kipchoge. Personal best 21.1km: 61.24 and marathon debut in Cologne 2014 with victory in 2.10.26.
Shortly before the closing date for entries Linz can pull another additional top athlete out of his sleeve: Abraham Girma Bekele, ETH, born 1986 Bekele has achieved a personal best of 2:06:48 in the marathon at the Amsterdam Marathon 2012. This means that two athletes with best times of 2:06, one with a best time of 2:07:11 and one with 2:08, as well as the Cologne Marathon winner with 2:10, will compete in Linz. The Linz Marathon thus offers the absolutely fastest field of participants since its inception. In addition, there are fast pacemakers who try to keep the pace high until kilometer 30.
