School Run 2027: Run together, celebrate together!

On 11 April 2027, the time will have come: the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon will be celebrating its 25th anniversary! To mark this special occasion, schools across Upper Austria are once again invited to take part in this major running event in Linz.

Through the ‘Schule läuft’ campaign, the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon has been getting children and young people active since 2004. What began back then as an initiative to promote sport amongst schoolchildren has now become an integral part of the event.

So in 2027, it’s time once again to lace up your trainers, train together and take part in the Linz Marathon!

Two races for schools

As part of ‘Schule läuft’, pupils can choose between two races:

• Generali 5K

• LINZ AG Quarter Marathon

The entry fee is €10.00 per pupil.

This entitles participants to a comprehensive starter pack:

• Race number including timing

• Goodie bag

• Free T-shirt, provided by LINZ AG

• Finisher’s medal

This makes race day a special experience – from the start right through to the finish line.

Teachers are also taking part

‘Schule läuft’ isn’t just forpupils: teachers can alsotake partalongside their classes or pupils.

For every six pupils taking part, a teacher working at the relevant school receives a discounted entry place for €10.00 in the Generali 5K or the LINZ AG Quarter Marathon.

Any additional teachers will be charged the standard price applicable at the time. People who are not affiliated with the school cannot be registered via the “Schule läuft” campaign.

Interested schools can contact linzmarathon@liva.linz.at by email to request the relevant registration link.

You’ll need to be quick: starting places for the ‘Schule läuft’ events are limited. Once the available quota has been used up, no further registrations can be accepted.

The regular registration deadline is 18 March 2027 – provided that places are still available by then.

Our tip: Don’t wait too long – secure your place early!

Which school runs the fastest?

‘Schule läuft’ isn’t just about personal bests. The schools’ performances will also be recognised at the anniversary run.

The three fastest pupils from each school will be honoured in the LINZ AG Quarter Marathon and the Generali 5K.

For the rankings, the times are added together and then ranked.

The size of the running group also counts: we’re looking for the school with the highest participation rate relative to its total pupil numbers.

The ranking is based on a percentage relative to the total number of pupils at each school. It is therefore important that schools state their total number of pupils when registering. This information is requested via the collective collection form.

25 years of the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon are a cause for celebration – and ‘Schule läuft’ is an important part of this success story.

Whether it’s ambitiousrunners, enthusiastic teams or pupilsgetting their first taste of competitive sport: at the 2027 Linz Marathon, Upper Austrian schools can get active together, pursue sporting goals and experience the special atmosphere of a major running event.
